Barbara Sjoholm has taught writing workshops at Haystack, the Port Townsend Writers' Conference, the Whidbey Island Writers' Conference, Flight of the Mind, and the Hugo House Literary Center. She also has taught editing at the University of Washington and through the Author-Editor Clinic.

Subjects include fiction, mystery writing, memoir, and travel, including these topics: "Writing the Garden," "Constructing the Journey," "Real and Imaginary Geographies," "Place as Memory,” “On Pilgrimage,” “Writing the Travel Memoir,” and "Forms of Life Storytelling."

She has also lectured for Holland America on Norse voyages, and has given slide-show presentations on seafaring women in many locales.
